• Kitchen Layout, Take I*

We met today to talk about the kitchen. This is Gali’s first meeting with the architects in awhile, and it was all her today.

Our goal was to decide on what kind of cupboards we want, how to lay it out, and see what problems we have and how to resolve them. I was concerned that we will not have enough storage space with we keep it to a single tier of cupboards (below the countertop, or ‘below the marble’, as we say in Israel). • Electricity in the air

While waiting for the plans to be approved, we worked on the electricity plan. Where will the lights be, what kind of lights, etc.

I really liked the wall lights in Bill’s house in Kill Bill II:

Kill Bill II - 037 Kill Bill II - 030

notice the wall light right behind Uma Thurman (left photo), and on the left wall next to David Carradine

We will create a few of those in the house, and Yuval came up with a great idea for how to make them in a cost-sane* manner using a standard double bulb socket. I hope it works.

We pretty much worked it all out, including where we’ll place ceiling fans. The one thing we didn’t get to was where to put eclectic sockets. The advice I’m getting from people is or there is never enough of them so spread them all over, or “How many do you really need? When we built our house we … “I look around my current house and feel a shortage, especially in my study where I have computers, printer, scanner, phone, lights, etc.

Another thing we cleared is the pluming/water fixtures. That was quick and easy.

Shimon just sent me the new plans with the electrical and plumbing additions. Need to go over and approved them before we meet next week.

*” Cost-sane” is going to be a key phrase in the coming weeks and months. Not that costs will be really low, but we are trying to keep them in check with our budget (or in other words, lets not go crazy with the cash outflow)

  • Back from India

Just got back from eight days in Mumbai, India. The city is huge, with a population of over 12.5 million, and a great vibe.

Little huts along a Mumbai road. Note the ladders that lead to a second floorOne of my intentions for the trip (which was work related) was to find stuff for the house: interesting hinges, heavy wooden doors, whatever. I never had the time for it, but did spot a street vendor in Kolaba that sold small ceramic cupboard handles (knobs, to be precise). I didn’t get any since we are completely unclear on what we want to do cupboard -wise.

Check out some of my photos from the trip here:
