I must make a small confession. Not everything makes it onto this house blog. Not just the unimportant stuff, some things we are simply keeping to ourselves for a variety of reasons. But one thing that may seem that is missing simply does not exist: we are not fighting over the house.
I heard sob stories about how building a house was a brutal test of the strength of a couple’s relationship. We are sailing through it without a hitch.
It became very obvious at this one tile place we were at. The sales woman immediately stepped back when she noticed how strongly I disagreed with Gali over a wall tile Gali suggested. The tile was really ugly. The sales woman literally stepped back in what seemed like something she learned well – don’t be in the middle of a couple’s feud over bathroom tiles.
The screaming and shouting and fighting scenes that our architects have spoke about so many times just don’t happen with us. We are finding that we know how to handle the difficulties the situation brings upon us, and maneuver our way around the pitfalls
Thank you Gali for being such a great partner, you are my love!
What a nutty period. If the house seemed wounded before, I guess it was just bruised before it became really wounded. Holes, gaps and long grooves filled with wires and hoses filled the house as the next stage of electricity, communication, plumbing and air conditioning was put in place.
Gali and I finally started buying tiles, this weekend ordering floor tiles for the living room and bedrooms, and wall tiles for the bathrooms. Ordering the floor tiles for the bathrooms is next – we decided on what we want and get it next week.
I got some great news from Ari, a childhood friend that owns Ker Parquet, a wood flooring company – he can get us a great deal on the oak parquet I really wanted, and so we are not going to go over budget after all.
We still need to decide on a lot more (stairs, tiles for the guest toilet, toilets and sinks, the list goes on), but at least we are progressing at a good pace.
The stucco guys started to work this week, patching and smoothing the walls. The window and door frames will go in next and the second coat will follow.
The house will change its look again. How exciting.
This weekend we had very heavy rains. Some of the rooms had half an inch of water in them as water dripped in a few rooms, and poured in at one spot through the ceiling. Yaron told me that is OK and there is no need to worry. I worried.
(I wrote this post on December 9, while traveling, but forgot to post it… So, I’m posting it on December 22, back dating it to the 9th).
